ED80 Image Train

Gents, and Ladies,
I have just fitted an ed-80 to a 10" meade sct thanks to all for the advice on setting this up.
I gave it first light last night and targeted the W viel Neb, my question is this , After processing I definetly had the nebula but again the field of view seemed very narrow do people use focal reducers on ed-80's to aquire these nebs ? I took a shot or 2 of the almost full moon as well and that filled the capture screen with no room to spare either hence the question, I have a meade f6 and 3.3 FR. camera is an orion starshoot dsi2 lumicon ds filter
The Saxon ED-80 has very nice optics for a cheapie BTW.

use the Meade 6.3 reducer.

I used an ED80 'piggy-backed' on my 12" LX, for some considerable time, where it doubled as a guide scope/wide field scope.

The 6.3 FR will work very well on the ED80, but don't forget to calculate the correct spacing between the FR and the CCD, to achieve the full x6.3.

You might get way with using the 3.3, but this will be dependant on the size of the CCD, as if too big, the FR will not properly illuminate the whole of the CCD, and you'll get severe coma.

The best thing is the 'suck it and see', you might just be lucky. If so, you'll have a really wide FOV to 'play' with.

There are very few objects indeed that would require a FR on an ED80 !. Then again the Meade 0.63 would be handy for use on your 10".

Fred, you're forgetting that with his camera's small chip, the effective field of view is rather narrow...
