Hello all,

Snap of Copernicus tonight with Nikon d40 at prime of 22". A bit edgy and overexposed in parts but the surface's mottled colour and ejecta patterns is clear.

Richard - you are a tease. was that a stacked image or just a single shot? Simply amazing. - you must have waited until that little bit of scattered cloud went.

22"! Nice! A great result for prime focus!

Very nice Richard! looking at the moon, that 22" would almost take out your eyeball without real good sunnies! lol
cheers Gary

Thanks guys.
My first clean "capture" so to speak. I am still - and probably always will be - learning how to drive this thing http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=36163 (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=36163)

The view of the whole lunar surface in a wide field eyepiece is just so clear, I feel like I am looking through a 100mm Takahashi ;):rofl:

The next big challenge is to get the GStar working at full tilt. Picked up a star at mag 19.2 with only 140 x 2.5sec AVI frames stacked. This despite being no dark or flat, so great promise ahead for the really faint comets novae etc.

My son and I have been busy making the scope remote controlled. I can sit in my kitchen looking out the back window and drive in mosquito - free comfort!

Hi H0ughy. Yes just 4 frames stacked to see if it would sharpen a little which it did. I must say standing up on the ladder with camera, scope control, and wrestling the helical focuser that was receding almost out of eye line westward in a little breeze that made the whole scope shudder while watching for clear spots in the clouds was interesting!

Nice image Richard. :)

So much detail and rightfully so, it was taken through a 22" scope.

Looking forward to more.

mmmmm 22" equatorially mounted!! :)

Great image. Look forward to more!!!

Do you plan to do any planetary imaging with that monster? I dare say it would tear the pants off Jupiter.... or Saturn early next year

Hi,

I will do some planetary imaging when I get organised enough! I got this scope to do comet and supernova searching but now I am looking through it the planets are very very tempting!
