Fella's
Im just in the process of fitting a saxon ed 80 to a new 10" meade, the scope gears dont seem to be able to cope with the weight and made a nasty slip when slew testing....:eyepop:.. my questions are
1 have I damaged the scope and or buggered up its goto/alignment capabilities by allowing it to slip?

2. should this scope be able to cope with the added weight of an ed80 without counter weights?

any suggestions for fitting this guidescope successfully would be greatly appreciated/
Regards

Robbie you need to have the LX200 perfectly balanced according to the extra weight of the ED80 so as not to put undue strain on the gears.
This means you need counterweights for perfect balance.

Probably the drive gears are still OK, but you DEFINATELY need to get the scope balanced before trying again with the ED80.
I had my ED80 mounted on the 12" LX200 and it needed about 2-3Kg counterweight!
The mounting itself can take all this extra weight PROVIDED its balanced.
