Hi All
This is a 360 degree panorama view of my, soon to be, observatory site around 100kms North East of Perth. Just a couple of trees to deal with and I should have my own planetarium.
The image is a rough hand stitch that I did last week. I've added approximate compass directions on it for a guide. At this stage of thinking the new observatory will be about 30 metres from the house on the crest of the hill with virtually uninterupted views. I will take my converted shed up there to begin with but will probably design and build a new observatory to suite the location better ... the present shed design will be a bit flimsy for the conditions. Anyway just thought I would post this as I haven't done any imaging again for a while.

Good on ya Steve.
Living up there or just commuting for when doing astronomy?

Living there Roger ... bit daunting but gonna give it a try. I hate the city ! Perth is growing too big too fast ! Time for a more simple lifestyle !

Ah gee Steve, that looks really nice!
I would imagine that Perth will only be a modest light dome on the southwestern horizon? Magic!
I would love my wife to agree to something like this, although 100km might be a bit too far even for me to travel each day but Perth is pretty big so 100k's is about what would be good for astronomy..?...and yep that's all that really counts, the astronomy!!! :D Perhaps have it as a comfortably positioned dark sky outpost for weekends would be good too?
What sort of observatory are you planning?...go on, make me more depressed :(
Mike :)

Well hopefully the clouds will bugger off before I move in Ken

Hi Mike
The property has a two storey, two bedroom one bathroom dwelling on it and is actually going to be my home. It's set on five acres with only a few trees and is around 250 metres altitude above the valley in the distance.
I have a basic idea for a treated timber frame and cbond steel roll off roof structure with 1.2 metre walls to make the most of the 360 degree views and probably an integrated warm room. It will be some time before that comes to fruition so I'm taking my existing roll off roof shed/obs up there as a temp setup.
I hope all that hasn't made you too depessed mate ! ;)
That's an excellent view to all points of the compass Steve.
I reckon you will get some ripper nights for viewing/imaging at the new place.
Cheers

Looks like a great place for imaging Steve. Minimal light pollution and great open skies.
Perfect for an observatory.

That's what I reckon Matt ! I should be living up there within a few weeks so I'll get my first nightsky view and I'm expecting to be blown away .... as long as there are no clouds ofcourse !
