View Full Version here: : SMC (Oh, and all of it) This Time
Hi Guys, as some of you are aware I posted you only half of the SMC, well here we have the lot from early this morning.
Have a look and see what you think, and please feel free to comment either way, this is actually my first go at this object, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. ;)
This is a full size wide field of the SMC, consisting of 9 exposures @ 7 Mins each, @ 400 ISO, through the Tak and modded 5D, on board the G11, and autoguided with the W.O. 80mm FD, and Orion Auto-Guiger Camera.
Processing was in Image Plus, with Flats, and ICNR on, with a touch of Levels in PS2.
With it is a single Raw Frame of the same.
Thanks for looking. :)
Leon

Up a bit, down a bit, left a bit...FIRE!!!
You got it leon!!!!
Very nice - it's a 'fizzy' little bit of the sky the old SMC isn't it!?
I imaged it last night too - yet to stack etc, my subs don't look as clean as yours (damn that Tak!!)
Nice one mate

A lovely image Leon.
I just viewed all your other images in Photobucket.
You have captured a lot of beautiful wide field objects, well done.
Regards
Gerry
Thanks Doug, yea mate that was about the size of it, I ended up using the mounted laser in the end to center it, those NGC objects that I asked for didn't do it at all.
I'm quite happy with it, for a first go, and as you say it is a fizzy little bugger, just never to sure of the exposure range, and the ISO's, it will around for a while yet, so I can shoot it to death
And yes Doug, the Tak dose a good job :D :D but you must talk gently to it
Leon
Many thanks Gerry, mate I'm trying and I do feel it is getting better, but as you probably know, it is a fairly big learning curve.

Excellent image Leon. Lots of detail and great FOV as well.
Once I get my new refractor I wouldn't mind having a go at the SMC and the LMC.
Well done.

NIce and sharp and it looks like you and the orion are getting along ok now. Those long esposures have brought out the nebulosity in Ngcs 249,267 and 261 beautifully.
Thanks Matty, I have to admit that I am pleased with the results, and as you say plenty of nice detail, I think however that I will try for a bit longer subs next time, just to push it as far as I can.
And Matt, although I'm getting results with the Orion Guider, I still believe that it could produce better results, many thanks for your comments Matt.

Nice shot Leon. Might become a contest between you and Doug as to who shoots the most SMC's. Do you think it makes much difference at ISO400 to ISO 800 on this type of subject with the 5D? At 7mins on ISO 800 you'll get that extra info. Nice to see the single RAW frame too.
Many Thanks Craig, no contest mate, it is one subject that I have never imaged ans I was determined this to to have a good go at it, I feel it turned out OK, and never really considered 800 ISO.
I sort of have a set procedure, at no more than a 7 mins sub on any subject, and consider the ISO according to the temp, but i do like it at 400, so I have to capture more frames to get the same result of 800.
Don't know if this makes sense, but if one keeps chopping and changeing settings, one would never know where the balance is.
Leon
