Suggestions for Objects to image tonight?

Well, the skies are clear and I'm wanting to collect some data that I will be able to process while I am away for the weekend.

I've ruled out the Sculpter Galaxy as I have already imaged it in the past week and M42 as it rises quite late.

Any suggestions? :)

Matty, I'd have a go at the Helix.. its fairly large, rising at a reasonable time... Could be a good place to start... 47Tuc if you feel like doing a cluster..... ummm.... M33 for some galaxy action...

Other than that.. on your EQ6, hit the tour button and scroll through the list... always come up with some interesting objects that you never seem to think about..

Helix Nebula Big and quite bright planetary. Saturn Nebula small and dim Planetary. M20, M8. M16, M17, Cats paw Neb. dozens of Globular clusters.

M27 or anywhere along the Milky Way between Corona Australis and Aquila.

I'm with Alex 47 Tuc is a stunner or even M4 or M19 if you want some alternative globs. Nebula wise you have just about nailed everything that is riding high at the moment. Of course you could gather more data to add to your arsenal of what you have already collected.

How about some open clusters? M6, M7 or something a bit different NGC6231.

Either way you are lucky on a couple of scores. You are far away enough from Sydney for light pollution to not bother you too badly and secondly you don't have to play volleyball at 9pm tonight like some of us. :whistle:

If conditions are half as good down there as they are in Sydney I wish you a great night mate.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Man, I love it when it is clear. :D

I'm still having a hard time deciding on what to image though. I never really had a go at any PN but I'm wanting to image an object that will suit an unmodded DSLR.

I'll keep looking. :D

Are there any other interesting brightish Galaxies rising at around 8pm apart from M33?

After many problems with trying to find and put an object in the FOV I decided to what for M42 to rise. I wanted to image M77 a bright(ish) Spiral galaxy but had many problems putting it in the FOV. So I spent a little time observing the Andromeda Galaxy wait for Orion to rise.

As I am writing this, I am imaging M42. I'm hoping to collect a full range of exposures like before. Let hope it turns out better than before.

Go right off the clock Matt with NGC 246 The skull nebula, It is a relatively large planetary nebula in Cetus it wont dissapoint , so while others are imageing the Messiers i,ll see your skull nebula in the deep space section......cheers Kev.

Have a go at the planetary around Campbell's Hydrogen Star in Cygnus.
