My First Galaxy

NGC 253, crop from 8 frames @ 2 minutes, ISO 800 on Canon 300D. Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker and Dark subtracted, tweaked in Photoshop.

Not a bad first go at a Galaxy Bill. :) Some nice detail present and the dust lanes show up quite well.

Next time, if possible go for longer subs and/or more of them. Also, you might be able to bring out more of the Galaxy using Photoshop.

Thanks guys. A bit limited by town glow for exposure length, have street lights on 3 sides, will have another go with more subs.
Had a play with Photoshop this morning and got it a little better.

Hi Bill, A very nice start to your Galaxy collection. The image does look a little on the green side on my monitor but a small tweak on the levels slider will darken the background. A little mor stretching in levels and curves will probably lift the galaxy and darken the background to give a very pleasing result.
Take a copy up to John and ask for his help. He can help you a lot with processing.

Bill Hope you don't mind. I had a little fiddle and just made a change to how the 3 colours were aligned in the histogram and lifted the blue just a touch.

Hey Glen, I hope too that you don't mind but i did a little to your image as well. I've been doing this all night with my own attempt but your image had way more to work with. I adjusted the levels and curves in photoshop, then created a new layer with the original and a mask. I pasted the new image into the mask and blurred it and made the opacity around 50%. Then merged the layers down. STEVE.

I'm still a total novice when it comes to photoshop and your getting far more out of it than I can with the Raw images. Having another run tonight with longer exposures and more of. Will see how they come out in the morning.
