have just forced me in.... I had a good evening planned too.

It was nice and clear today, if a bit breezy, so I took the scope out early (to warm up - mirror would have been several degrees below air due to having the air con on in the house). When I went out I was surprised at how bright the sky was considering the moon is nowhere to be seen (could hardly see the large Magellenic cloud) and seeing was pretty poor. Ah well I thought I'll stick to bright objects, focussed on 47 Tuc when suddenly the wind blew up and the sky went orange...

B*gger, I suppose it is spring, but looks like I'll have a cleaning job tomorrow, hopefully the mirror hasn't been scoured...

The moral of this tale is that those of you who wish for country skies and no dew problems for much of the year may get more than they bargain for...

Yeah dust storms are a problem in Mildura. It helps to check weather forecasts and follow weather conditions during the day. Cold fronts can be gusty and therefore whip up dust. Days with strong northerly winds are also bad for observation, again due to the dust factor.

Don't observe when strong winds and cold fronts are forecast to hit.
