I know you are having a very dry period Dave, so I thought I'd share last nights capture with you in the hope you'll make next years Duckadang. (Or at least come up here and visit).
2@8min. ISO800, dark subtracted. ED80 and WO FR. Stacked in IP and processed in IP and PS. A very rushed job. I'll try for a better one once it comes into view at a reasonable time. ;)
I mustn't have had the camera square last night as all the shots taken have the left hand side showing some form of curvature. :(
Anyway, enjoy Dave.

That’s a beautiful image Paul, especially for such a classical N hemisphere object that is so poorly placed for us in the S hemisphere.
Cheers

Very nice for just 8 mins Paul, imagine what you would have with another 10 or so images stacked.

Thanks Dennis and Stuart. I know how the h0ughinator mourns not being able to image objects like this at home. I might try for a bit of M33 as well for him in a month or two ;)
I would have gone longer Steve, but 1:30 was my limit, so 2 would have to do. I'll definitely be getting more once it arrives in my frame at a more reasonable time. ;)
Paul that's a great capture !
A lot of detail for such short exposure.
It's a beautiful galaxy indeed and we're lucky to have a chance to image this northern jewel.
I'm setting up as we 'speak' and will be hunting M31 tonight too.

I can't even see it from where I am right now, even if I could I would be shooting across the city through 40kms of suburban skyglow so I doubt I would get anything resembling it  ..... I'll have a pretty good northerly outlook from my country hideaway next year !

That is a beautiful shot. I guess you could get more shots if only you had an observatory, eh Paul.;)

Thanks Bave/Darb (?) and Phil. It surprised me when it started to come out during the processing.
Funny you should say that Adam. ;)
I'm a bit hampered atm with some trees. My window of opportunity is about 2 hours or so. Unfortunately M31 doesn't get to my "window of opportunity" until around 12:00 at this time of the year. I might have taken a few more but the fog moved in at 12:30 but I persisted until about 1:00ish and then decided to pack up. Then the fog decided to clear at about 1:30 of course

Very nice Paul - I would love to image the Andromeda Galaxy but my neighbour keeps it just below his fence!

Beautiful M31 Paul! Fits nicely into your FOV!
Have to try doing this one with the Tv but means a setup in the front paddock!
cheers Gary

Nice one Paul, you would love imaging it from up here. :D
You almost get a sore neck if you spend to long looking at M31
On a good night I have seen binocular views of M31 that take your breath away :eyepop:
OK .... I have finished gloating now.
Again well done Paul, that is a beautiful shot
I'd really like to image this galaxy with my ED80, but I think I'm too far south...

A lovely image of this magnificent object. I remember looking at this one as a child in upstate New York. It is hard to imagine that such beautiful images of it can be produced now a hemisphere away. Thanks

Excellent image Paul for only 8 mins.
So long as you have that concrete slab ready Anna and I will let the big fella have some space under the awning. :P

John, the slab will be ready as long as Phil brings his shovel with him when he visits in the next few weeks. ;)
I spent last night on M31 Paul until the wind brought an abrupt end to my session.
It's probably the last chance I'll have this season to image it since we have Lostock next month.
I can't wait to get an observatory up and running, too much mucking around setting up and then have the weather turn on you.

brilliant result Paul
Yikes! That's sweet Paul. Certainly wasn't expecting such a fantastic rendition. Could almost mistaken that to have been taken from the n.hemisphere! (Not secretly using robotic telescopes are you?;))
The image has real natural feel to it with its low colour saturation. Contrasting today heavily saturated images makes it different to others I've seen. Excellent highlights to the dusty lanes. Two thumbs up!:2thumbs:
