The need for speed

After numerous rounds of "upgrading" my equipment, I realise that I'm really no better off and perhaps slightly worse of than before I started the upgrade.

I started out with a Losmandy G11/TMB 105/Canon 300D combo, going through a Takahashi "phase" and ending up with a PME/RCOS/SBIG STL combination. Am I happier - NO, am I producing better images - NO, so when is enough - enough.

I would value your comments and experiences: what is it that is really important, the process or the outcome. I suspect that it will vary from person to person.

You need to be more specific - generally though -Maybe you need more apeture rather than speed.

What !!!!. I have a G11/SBIG ST10XME/Meade OTA at home and seperately a RCOS/PME/SBIG ST10XME remote rig. I use and like em both, from my experience, the mount counts 1st, then the cam. The 1st rig may be diasappointing due to the cam (not to say a DSLR is no good, just way worse than an STL) and there is no excuse for being disappointed with the 2nd rig whatsoever, regardless of your circumstances. Why the disappointment?. The PME will give faultless guiding, no brainer, the RCOS sharp images, no brainer, and the STL hi res, no brainer, WHATS the problem. Perhaps the set up is less than optimum. Or urban skies. The last frontier is megadata when all else fails. Your post is counter intuative and vauge, fess up, whats the motive?.

Ahh, then there is processing images, which is half the fun, or less with yr last rig. Your on a wind up mission punk, explain or be dambed :D (Im kidding)

Lars, don't give up, we need a decent source of good second hand equipment... :whistle:

Seriously though, there is a degree of pleasure in owning the best you can afford, even if you don't manage to extract the best results.
