Finally a first light image....and it seemed only fitting to choose and object which definitely could not bee seen from my location at the time.

While not the best of 47 Tuc images... more a "proof of concept"... plus more work needs doing (eg: get a better library of flats/darks as the data here is incomplete...no flats...(what again! says Jase :) )

Lastly, remote imaging using your own gear from afar is not for the faint of heart....Hotel internet bandwidth can be woeful to non-existent.

In this case I lost all internet connections for a time. Thankfully the Boltwood did its job and closed the dome shutter (due cloud) allowing me to shut the whole system down when the net was back up.

...the result was none-the-less very pleasing.

Do you have a webcam in the obs so you can see if a cat or possum has decided to visit while the shutter is open and before you close it! :) Then you need a remotely operated siren as well to scare them out?

As a matter of fact, yes! there is a remotely controllable webcam in the dome. Not so much for the local fauna though. More to keep an eye on random failures eg, cable snag, un-commanded shutter closure.

Awe gee...thanks Peter, here I am planning and packing to take my whole friggin kit and caboodle 4hrs by car to Wiruna this weekend to setup and pull down and risk cloud and rain while you are is some sleezy hotel room in California running your own mega dollar imaging rig at home in Sydney :rolleyes:.

So you go half way round the world, away from your own scope and then remotely control it back again....it's Rent-a-Scope in reverse but no rent :lol:

I shake my head in amazement......

Very nice result Peter. At least you have now tested your system over a real internet remote connection and now know it works and by the result, works very well.
Here I am thinking how great it is to control the telescope and cameras etc from my lounge room.

Man that is awesome, :eyepop: I have trouble doing remote imaging even while I'm in the shed beside my observatory, err about 10 feet away :lol: can you imagine the mess if I was that far away, :whistle: It is a wonderful image Peter, one to hang on the wall I reckon.

Pretty cool picture :thumbsup: If you can do that from California for sure you'd be able to control your RCOS from Sydney [or anywhere else] and locate it at a dark site in OZ no? Is this a test run before relocation?

Yes I suppose it is a bit like rent-a-scope in reverse :) While there is a possibility of re-locating to dome to a dark sky, like Yass for example ;) nothing will be happening in the short term.

Plus I haven't worked out how to change cameras, focal reducers etc. via the net just yet!

Very nice image.

I was thinking of remote controlling my dark site as well but the costs and difficulties were a turn off.

Still its an appealling concept when you consider the massive amount of downtime we experience in this game.

I just had 5 nights at my dark site and only 2/3rds of one night and 2 hours of another were imageable. Then of course as I leave, perfectly clear skies. Makes a case for remote imaging.

While I was not so much showcasing the image as such ....it was more a case of acting like Gene Wilder in "Young Frankenstein" i.e.

IT's ALIVE !!! ie really pleased it actually worked :)
