Has anyone had any experience with this equatorial platform (http://supernorthstars.tripod.com/index.html) . It seems much cheaper than most. I emailed the guy and he says $US364 delivered to Australia.

Is that custom made for your latitude?

Well spotted Mike:-

" the platform is setup at 42-degrees,and can adjusted for +/-3 degrees for up to 45-degrees or down to 39-degrees latitude.

You can Order Custom Latitudes..."

It would have to be custom made for an Oz latitude, or latitude range (and motor direction reversed for SCP).

But worth telling the supplier that, if it performs and, at around that price delivered, he could well have a number of sales in Australia for an Australian designed model.

I presume so. I asked if it worked in the southern hemisphere and he said there was a north-south switch. I didn't enquire about a lot of detail before establishing that he could deliver to Oz and southern hemisphere was possible.

It did cross my mind to use it on my 12" Dob and no, I'm not buying a 16" LB until someone brings out a 20" commercial Dob, in which case the price of a 16" will drop dramatically.

The guy, Peter, from this mob claims there is no extra cost to custom build. I gave him 31 degrees (south is via a north/south switch) as an example for Perth.

Cheers,
