Hi all,

I bought myself a Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM lens on a recent trip to Melbourne. I like to refer to it as my birthday present. ;)

I took it to Floriade on Saturday and gave it a whirl. What a fantastic lens!

The contrast in this L-bomb is amazing. There's plenty of distortion at 24mm -- it's definitely not a landscape lens, unless you're willing to sort it out in post-processing (which, admittedly, is not that difficult). Otherwise, I'm blown away. It will compliment the Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS USM that I am going to get in November, along with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II (the kit version of the camera comes with the 24-105mm lens), quite well.

The final image is Bellatrix (Bella), my friend and colleague Cassandra's pet miniature schnauzer.

All images were shot at the native F/4 and at ISO-100, except for the last image, which was shot at ISO-200.

These images have been reduced in resolution. Higher resolution images available upon request.

Comments and critique welcome.

Regards,
Humayun

Great shots H !
That's an awesome lens, you're going to love it !

You're also going to love that superb 70-200mm F/2.8, another stunning lens.

And let's not forget the 21mp monster ! :)

Looking forward to see what you produce with the 5D Mk II, (no magenta widefields I bet)

The lens I've been lusting for but just can't quite afford:(

Lovely shots, I particularly like number three, the flower that stands alone among a nicely defocussed kaleidoscope background of colour:D

David,

LOL! It's an interesting flower, isn't it? :P

I am certainly very happy with it. I can only imagine how much better the 70-200mm is!

Cheers!

Andrew,

Thanks!

LOL, you still remember the magenta widefields, the likes of which no astrophotographer has seen before? :P

Cheers!

Robert,

Save your pennies -- it's a corker. :)

Thanks!

Humayun

Nice shots Humayun,

The 24-105 is on my wish list but the 50mm 1.4 will do me for a while.

Ric,

Thanks!

Tony,

phw0ar, you're back? Good to see you back.

Yeah, I have the 50mm F/1.4, and the F/2.5 macro, as well. Both wonderful lenses! I find the macro seems to give me brighter images than the standard prime.

Humayun

EF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM is on my wish list , after I get my EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS USM and 2x type II L teleconvertor.

A good macro lens is there too , but way down on the list.

I'll make do with the 40D for a while I think.
