Took the plunge and bought myself the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 wideangle for my Canon 40D.

I'm really pleased with it. It's great to have the width and the sharpness is excellent! I did some direct comparisons witht the Sigma 10-20 and this was significantly sharper especially away from the centre. There is more Chromatic abberation with the Tokina, but only of very high contrast edges and even then you have to crop down to 100% to notice.

I took the lens down along the Brisbane River for a lunchtime shoot. Here's a selection from a dozen or so shots taken.

cheers,

Rob

Wow awesome shots Rob !!!

I'd swear they look like HDR/tonemap.
Top shots mate, congrats on the new lens.

Thanks fellas:)

John, I bought it from HK on e-bay where they run from between $700-750AU. A tad more than the Sigma 10-20, but a fair bit less than the Canon 10-22. The fixed F2.8 is a bonus for interior shots... hmmm should be for great widefield astro too

Hi Andrew, no HDR or tonemapping though I did selectively play with the levels on the sky to bring out the detail there.

cheers,

Rob

ive looked around and the best price for body only is 1400 >1500 Aus Dollar

if i get the camera with the lens kit (1) it jumps to 2100 aus dollar quite a hike :)

John, note that the Canon 50D is being released next month... whereas they will continue to sell the 40D you could expect some price reductions from then if you can wait;)
