Arctic pics

My Dad is currently working in arctic waters near Greenland and sent some pics of the environs. I have attached some of the images, one includes a polar bear that was photographed after swimming from a nearby iceberg to check out the ships scout boat :) wish I was there.

Very nice Stuart. They are great shots. Very envious. :thumbsup: I would imagine that when it gets dark up there it gets REALLY dark!!! The big question is though, now that it is getting darker for longer, did he take a telescope. :lol:

Thanks for posting these great shots!

Perhaps the polar bear is a bit of a worry? Though I have no expertise in the
behaviour of polar bears, it does leave one wondering if it is the norm to
see them adrift on icebergs? One might assume that the effort to swim out
would not be taken lightly, which makes me wonder if he was either very hungry or
thinking that by getting to the boat, he would effectively be iceberg hopping?
In light of the reports of the impact of diminishing pack ice upon polar bear
survival, might this be a first hand account? Or perhaps this is normal? I don't know.
It would be interesting to learn more.

Your Dad must be having an amazing experience, My brother was a merchant seamen and was lucky enough to go to Antartica.
I am also interested about the polar being so far out from shore.
I remember just recently watching a doco on polar bears but cannot remember them doing any sort of long distance swimming.
