After many many attempts at getting the timing and focus right, I've landed a shot that I've been hunting for quite a while....
took a burst of 6 shots, these were shots 2 and 4 from the burst,
350D + 70-200 F/4L + Canon 1.4x Tele-extender.. 280mm F/5.6, ISO200 1/1250 shutter.
Thanks for looking
Alex.

Great shot Alex
I have been trying to get that shot at our local duck pond with no success.

great shots
Lovely action shots Alex. They are great captures of the landing and the water wake.
I'm waiting to capture the not so graceful landings of the ducks on our dam, some of their landings are a real chuckle to watch

Hi Alex
Very nice captures with these fast moving, relatively small birds. Are they Black Ducks?
Yeah, landings are tough! I’ve had some success with Pelicans; I think their size makes it easier as they seem to have a slower approach. Another fascinating characteristic that I noted is that they duck their head and beak underwater just as they land.
Cheers
