The Canon Powershot range are a dame good camera I've owned 3 although the best where the earlier ones as far as options went. Nice shots.

it was blowing a gale so i couldnt get any closer

the pics look better on a computer screen than on the LCD

Goodonyah John, congrats on the new camera, you're going to have fun.
What I'd suggest is to use it in Auto mode and check what settings the camera used.
When you feel confident with the functions put it in manual mode and replicate those settings, then begin to experiment.
Soon you'll have a feel of what to expect.

thanks Andrew I will Try That however from what ive read sofar its not capable of tooo much in manual mode unfortunately
