Anyone considering going to see this ? It's been a long time since I saw a decent eclipse (1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1991) and it looks like a good excuse to visit China and/or Japan.

I'm thinking of going, with family. While it's possible on one of several tours (see eg. http://www.eclipse-chasers.com/tse2009.html) I'm just wondering if there's a group from Aus. Not sure I want to be on a boat though as I will want to take shots through a small scope.
Thoughts ?

I would looooove to go to this! Unfortunately we just won't be able to afford it. I'm gonna have to wait until 2012.

Hi Wavytone,
If you are interested, the Sutherland Society is running a tour to China to view the eclipse from Hangzhou, a couple of hundred kilometres south of Shanghai near the coast. Apart from mid-pacific it has pretty-much the best weather prospects on the mainland. Eclipse at Hangzhou will last 5mins 49sec -- enough time to get bored during totallity.
Participation is not limited to SASI members. The tour is 13 days, 11 nights five ***** hotels all the way, virtually all meals, two internal flights, Shanghai, Terracotta Warriors, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Beijing etc etc etc plus much more for a base rate of $3090 per person twin-share :eyepop: + fuel levy + departure taxes. Extra $370- to fly to and from China via Singapore Airlines (rather than South-East China Air).
For what it includes, the price is completely insane and I couldn't go past it. I'm going with the family.
If you are interested PM me with your private email address and I will send on the PDF brochure. Numbers are very limited and I can't warrant that it isn't already filled -- but it only opened 6 weeks ago.
Best,
Les D
