Took this last night with Canon 450D, and 'nifty fifty' lens ... ISO 1600 for about 24 sec. Quite happy with way Milky Way has shown up, nice little lens, though not sure why the bottom left stars down near Antares are ... 'running' a bit.

Thanks Jen, lovely images.

The elongated stars are likely due to a combination of field curvature in the lens, and a longish exposure giving some slight trailing.

You could try stepping down the lens a bit to try and reduce it, and keep your exposures shorter. You really need a tracking mount!

Correction ... cant be 50mm as view too wide, so was my 18-55 that came with camera.

Nice shots Liz, well done. :)

You should try for some star trails with your setup seeing you don't have a tracking mount for your camera. They are very easy to do.
