Hi
I have just purchased a Q Guider mono camera which I intended primarily as a guide camera and it works very well with my existing PHD guide program.
I would also like to try some imaging with the Q Guider. Is there software
(free preferably!!) available to do this?
Cheers Peter

Peter I've asked a similar question recently concerning the Orion Auto Guider don't know much about Q guider but there are a number of software packages available to capture AVI's it depends whether they include a driver that supports your camera.

G'day Trevor & Peter,
Have a look at www.astrosoft.be (http://www.astrosoft.be) and download the QGVideo program.
It works extemely well with the QGuider.

I tried mine, albeit very very briefly, with Maxim DL (which is what I capture and guide with), and it seemed to go OK.
Have you looked at Nebulosity?

Peter, you should have a program called QGVideo under your applications directory.
Install it, and have a play around. You can take images and stream video etc.
The Orion guider has different firmware, and is not licensed to run the QHY-5 (Qguider) drivers and application programs.
There is special versions of a couple of programs from Astrosoft, but most will need you to purchase a license. The QHY cameras are already licensed.

How do you get a license key to unlock the driver
Thanks
email Tom at astrosoft. But check first what has been paid for by Orion's license first at Toms website.
I think they did fork out some money for extra functionality, as a couple of programs went free lately. But for others, email Tom, and he will email you a key to unlock your software.

Does anyone know if you can use the camera as a webcam?
I am looking for a higher resolution webcam than I currently use (Phillips TouCam Pro) for my webcasting (Moon and Jupiter).

Paul Floyd.

Keep us posted on how this developes , I got one too , but not been used yet.
You should be able to use it as a webcam as long as your program accepts Twain drivers (Which most do).
There is a Twain driver for the QHY-5, so download it and it should work, with the emphasis on "Should", as i havent tried it or heard anyone else who has done this.
Always a pioneer somewhere, so let us know how it goes.

I wanted to use mine with K3 CCD Tools, and while the Twain driver made things sort of look like they were working, I was unable to make it go. I am in the middle of trying QGVideo, but that too is difficult to the extent that I have resorted back to the ToUcam.
