Hi all,
I was visiting family in the eastern suburbs of Brisbane this evening, and was able to get a few shots of the Riverfire fireworks and F1-11s doing their dump and burn routine. I was a long way away, so didn't get too much fireworks detail, but the distance worked in my favour for the F1-11s I think. Anyway, here they are...hope you like them!
Cheers,
Stephen

Great shots...
Not to be picky, but it's written F-111, it's just said as F one eleven, because thats alot easier than F one hundred and eleven..

Very nice set of photo’s Stephen; a lone pig flew over our house when I was setting up – usually there are two F-111’s? Did you see 2 or are the RAAF economising due to high fuel prices?
We saw both the 7:01pm run and the 7:28pm run from our house.
Cheers

I saw both runs, sitting next to my scope, there was definitely only 1 F-111 per run...
Wow cool shots Stephen !

Awesome shots!
I was in a uni lab at QUT, right next to the river at around midday on Friday and we heard them on their practise run. Very loud! The windows were blinded so it took us a few seconds to realise what the noise was. :P

Bful shots Stephen , luv the cityscape/fireworks pics, and is that Venus in the last shot?? Jupiter is overhead at moment, so maybe Venus.

 excellent shots Stephen... I especially like the wide view ones.
I'm gonna have to make the effort to come down and see River Fire for myself one day...

great stuff Stephen, I watched the telecast and felt the f-111 flew way to high but going by your shots they wern't as high as I thought but still could have been a lot lower.
Well they flew a lot lower years ago.

last year and the year before they were much much lower.. from where I am, Usually when they start the burn, all I can see is the horizon glowing, then they pull up and become visible, this year they were about 1.5~2° above the horizon when they fired up...

Thanks everyone! I just checked on the map, and we were almost exactly 10 km from the fireworks, so I'm surprised how well they came out.
Thanks for pointing that out, Alex. It didn't look right when I added the labels last night, so I checked the Riverfire website and they called them "F1-11s". Should have checked the RAAF website!
I was wondering the same thing Liz. Venus had almost set when that last shot was taken, and I'd swapped to a wide angle lens at the end, so I think it's Jupiter with Antares below and left. At least there's something astronomical in the image!
Cheers,
Stephen

Excelent shots Stephen, I'd say you weren't far away from where I was on the night.
We weren't aware of the festivities until we arrived.
I took my camera to Brissy but not the tripod so my shots are fairly ordinary by comparison. Here's a couple of my best handheld shots with a little help from IS. I had to keep the ISO up to keep the exposures ralatively short.

Thanks Robert and Phil.
Those shots of yours are pretty good for hand-held Phil! Looks like you were a bit closer than me, as I couldn't actually see the Storey Bridge, just the fireworks coming off it. (I was in Carindale.)
Cheers,
Stephen
