My Try at The Swan M17

Hi Guys, Last night it was super clear and I was going to go for it, and stay out till dawn if i had to, but alas the clouds came in at about 11. :sadeyes:

Anyway I was able to capture the Swan, M17 but only got in 7 frames before it clouded over.

So here you have 7 exp @ 6 mins at 400 ISO through the Tak and 5D, ICNR on, On the G11 and Auto Guided with the 80mm WO FD, and that dreaded Orion StarShoot Autoguider, :lol: Flats were applied and processing in Image Plus with some touch up's in PS2.

This image is a full un-cropped wide field.

I think that your wide-field view is different to many other images that you normally see.

Thank you also for your comments, the wide fields you speak of is probably due to the fact that I use a Takahashi FSQ-106, it has a 9 degree field of view right to the edges. :D

i didnt know you had one of those, how long has this been in the armoury?

it looks good, but really needs a bigger image to fully appreciate the detail that this has captured, as i imagine the full sized image looks spectacular.

Top WF image Leon.
Shows lots of dark lanes in the star field and plenty of faint knots of H around the area. I'll use this image as a finder for some of these Ha regions.

try cropping a section out........ open it in photoshop use the selection tool , set the style in the toolbar to fixed size (type in 800px or whatever you want) drag the selection box to the bit you want.

go back to the menu and under image drop down to crop

go to the menu again file drop down to save for web

keep an eye on the file size and adjust image size to what you want be it 50% 75% or 100% for the bold then adjust the quality down to fit to 200kb. just try not to introduce jpg artifacts (try to keep above 70%) adjusting either these should give you what you want, as for the whole image at a larger file size .... 200kb wont do it so you will need to upload to your own website ...or.... IIS does have a large file download option (dont ask me how as i havent used it before) PM mike (iceman) he will know or point you to the HOW TO page.

A 5D on a TAK FSQ-106 = Wide field indeed.

The centre appears a little clipped but other than that a v.nice vista.

Try Alchemy's advice on getting a larger image scale, you should have plenty of pixels to play with from the 5D.

I was going to setup around 9 lastnight but it was loooking hazy. Wish i had now. Your TAK is beautiful and razor sharp right across those wide fields. Wonderful to behold.
