Well i was hard at work today hoping for delivery of my 25x100 binoculars.

I had rang the supplier early to chase up progress on my order, and was pleased to hear that they would definately be delivered this afternoon:thumbsup:

I just couldn't wait to finish work and unpack my new toy, and aim it at the heavens for a test run, please let there be clear skies:prey2:

The missus called around lunch to tell me that my boxes had arrived, to say i was rapt..........well you know the feeling.

I got home and sliced open the boxes like a sushi chef, being carefull not to scrape or scratch the precious contents.

Once i had the three boxes open, i gently removed the inner top foan padding to see a spanking new shiney ginormous binno mount, the size of this thing is huge, next i wanted to see the tripod that came with the binnis, (saving for last, like the best part of a roast dinner, the binno's)

The tripod seemed well made and sturdy, i quickly inspected them, then held my breath to reveal the awsome sight i had been dreaming of................:eyepop:

I think a picture tells a thousand words, so i will refrain from repeating all the ones i have so far come out with.....

I suppose accidents and mistakes are bound to happen, but i must say "not happy Jan", and my favorite is "do any of those mounts come with a binocular"

Trevor,

That is only funny if the sky is cloudy.

If by some fluke Melbourne has clear skies tonight you will really be peeved!!! :o

Not to worry. It's cloudy and raining. The pics are funny as hell!
Did you buy from Andrews? Lee must be working too many hours and not getting enough sleep. :) I'm sure he'll look after you but you need to be terse, because he seems to only skim thru long emails. You might end up with a spare fork mount.

Hehe! Lol! Make sure when you send one of the mounts back he doesn't send another tripod!

 Well it keeps getting worse by the minute, i just had a better look at the tripod, there is a nut missing, most other smaller ones are all loose, and when the mount is placed on top, there is so much play between the mount and the tripod, it has more wobble action than some of my deep diving fishing lures:confuse3:

I wouldn't be happy mounting my 8x24 pentax's on this set-up, let alone some 13 odd kg's of hard earned $$$$$'s

Looks like the mount is to become a boomerang back to the suppliers, maybe i'll get a 27 meg antenna on the return trip :scared2:

Do you happen to know Tom (vermin) in Hobart!!!

All sounds familiar, but Toms gear came from overseas! :scared:

I am looking at a mount and tripod for my 10x50 binos.
Can you suggest any options ?
(Obviously not the mount/tripod above!)

Hey Grant,

You can get one of them Optex mounts for your 10x50's. Wouldn't need one of the beefier ones since the binocs are pretty light...and sorry for hijacking this thread :)

Well i was contacted by the supplier first thing this morning, about my missing binno's, after sending off a polite email.

Didn't get much of an explanation or an apology for that matter:shrug:

My binnocs will be arriving next week, fingers crossed.

No use in jumping up and down, bagging the company, i would like to but it wouldn't achieve much:P

After work i had another look at the tripod, and attatched the mount, i didn't tighten the threaded sleeve when i looked at it yesterday, so when i did today, i got a nice snug fit without any play or movement at all:thumbsup:

I think this tripod and mount will work after all, it would be nice to mount some binnocs atop to at least look at some clouds though:)

el, those Mulloway sure are worth fishing for and taste great in the pan, my boat is nearly finished, i can't wait for the Snapper to start moving in the bay.....

So what is that mount worth ? And who from ?
Did you put it on any ole tripod ?

Firstly nice tripod and huge binocs tidalphase :) And Grant Andrew astro_south and me both have an older model Optex T-550 which has since been replaced by some newer models. These can be bought from any camera shop including JB Hifi and Myers (although their range is not great). I would recommend the new Optex model's above T-465 (larger head therefore more stable) but you could probably get away with something smaller for your binocs.

Hope that helps.

 O.K They have arrived,

I have been hanging out all weekend for these ,and yesterday they found their way to my house.

I couldn't wait to unpack and mount them on the tripod,
as would be expected, clouds rolled in from every direction, so i had to settle for a view of a wing nut 150 meters away on a t.v. antenna:doh:

Focus seemed good and they seemed well collimated, i was very happy to finally get them.

Around 10pm there was a break in the sky, and i was able to view the south western sky in between patches of cloud.

I looked at the Southern cross, but was unable to find the jewel box. as i was in a rush to see everthing all at once:ashamed:

I found a star cluster that i can't identify?? as i am finding it hard to look at the planishere, and match up what i see.

The binnocs seemed to perform well, focusing stars to a good point, and giving an awsome wide field view

Later on about 10:30pm after i had been clouded over and packed up , the moon showed it's glow through the gaps in the clouds, so it was a quick unpack and re set up of the binno's to see how the moon looked in the eyepiece.

The view was awsome, with only a bit of color from the eyepiece, blue above and bright yellow below, when i moved my head at the eyepiece, this was eliminated, and i got a clear, in focus, sharp and crisp view of the luna surface:)

The tripod worked well, and i am happy with my purchase after the initial set back, i think i will up the magnification with a few extra eyepieces to see how much more i can get out of these.

Any suggestions on eyepiece x, to suit these would be appreciated, i think the max is about 150x

These look absolutely lovely - the mount looks well machined and shiny!!
Gimme Gimme...
I've never seen these size of binos in the flesh, but when you put an average sized person in the pics for perspective you really see how big they are...f@#$in' huge.
How do you find ...er...finding things!!?
Perhaps a red dot finder would be cool.
As for EPs - there are plenty of hints and tips for these binos on the Cloudy Nights forums...

Cheers and good luck - I'm jealous.
