This is the result of some RAW data I had yet process from last year's Lunar eclipse.
The sequence here shows a couple of interesting aspects to a total lunar eclipse. The size and shape of the earth's shadow being the most obvious.
The other is the scattering from the earth atmosphere...showing up as a distinct blue edge to the early and late parts of totality.

If you scale back the luminosity of your image you'll be surprised at the colour ;) The NASA link to which you refer also refers to "blue" as well as turquoise.

it's a bit confusing how it says a "total solar eclipse" since those are pictures of a total lunar eclipse. though i get what you mean, since you're talking from the perspective of the moon, where the earth is actually occulting the sun, it might make more sense to say a total solar occultation from the moon so that it isn't confused with the (though wrongly named) total solar eclipse that we see from earth
i'm not sure if that all makes sense, but hopefully you get where I'm going with it.
sweet compilation of photos though!

Solar eclipses are not just confined to planet earth...just think you are an astronaut standing on the moon looking toward the sun. Or if you want to go a bit further out.... http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap061016.html ;)
