Hi all
After moon and weather delays finally got to catch some photons again.
Decided to try for the Eagle nebula
7x10 mins ISO 200. Only uv/ir filter used. Modded 350D, MPCC coma corrector. 10 inch f5.6 newtonian. Hand off axis guided as usual with Q guider cam.

I would have got much more nebulosity without the filter but wanted to see if I could get a less monochromatic image.

Sky transparency was quite good (for Newcastle) but wind buffeting was a nuisance

Was a pleasure processing it on my quad core box. Iris ran much faster, and unlike my single core box I could actually still use the pc, in fact I had the Olympic closing ceremony in HD on Prime running at same time :)

Very nice image Scott. It might be a touch too red, but overall, very well done.

Very nice indeed mate! tracking looks spot on, nice strong looking pilars and good color too... perhaps have a go at getting a set of subs with the UV/IR filter, and a set without, then merge them together.. might result in more nebulosity with good color... worth trying anyways I rekon...

Top job!

With all the talk about spending $500 on acquiring a single image using a proffessional rent-a 24" mega scope over the internet (with great results of course), it is really quite sobering to think that Scott took this image from his suburban backyard in the coal captial of the world Newcastle, setup on a slopped and lumpy grass backyard, under a clothsline, with a garage, house and fence sqeezing him in on all sides and on a 25 year old AstroOptical Samson mount complete with cookie cutter RA drive wheel, guiding by hand while watching a CCTV screen :eyepop::eyepop:

Great stuff Scott!! You are a bastion of normality (and great nostalgia). You should serve to, at least momentarily, ground some of us who continually strive to have or use the best and most sophisitcated equipment to image the sky

Although, it sounds like your new computer isn't from the dark ages of TANDY Electronics? ;)

What price blood, sweat, tears and the bloody wind?

Still turning out top quality images with equipment and in conditions that would stop many of us.
Great image Scott.:)

I like it. Well done.

As has already been said, it has a 3D feel to it, and is a nice wide field.

Many thanks all
I just wish I could control the weather :)
Actually its positive luxury sitting there watching the guidestar on screen instead of having to stand at the scope squinting down the guider like I used to before getting the Q guider camera.
