Flt 110 Apo

Hi All

Just had to tell everyone that my William Optics FLT 110 F7 Triplet Apo was delivered to my door today ....... :D ....... thanks Astronomy Alive !

When I get used to it I will start doing some imaging, might just do some visuals of the Moon and Jupiter etc tonight weather permitting.
It's a mean looking piece of gear, quality finish, very happy :hi:

Hi All

Took the scope out last night for a couple of hours and am very impressed with visual performance to start. Even with heavy light pollution and turbulence I could see nebulosity around M8, M20, M17 before moonrise ( first time for this location ), stars are crisp pinpoints right across the field and NGC104 just popped out of the background, very nice ... also M7, M6 and so on. Jupiter was also good with Vixen LV20mm and with 2x barlow combo but turbulence limited views a bit.

I bought the scope from Astronomy Alive ... good price ... good to deal with ... all done via emails ... wake up Andrews it's the 21st century ... phone and fax doesn't cut it from interstate :shrug: ... sorry ... but they had a chance.

Thanks Beren, it promises great things ! As I said earlier in thread it performed visually very well on first outing so I have no doubts it will also be a wonderful imaging scope once I get acquainted with it properly.

As regards Andrews ... I was given an excuse to do with Ham/CB radio operators wasting their time with endless emails and not having enough time to deal with them all but I'm afraid that doesn't cut it with me . If you want my business you have to be available online if you are insterstate or international or even local for that matter. Move with the times guys !

I'll third that. I haven't had any real problems dealing with them over the phone but email would be a lot more convenient.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I heard that Andrews had to remove their email address from their website because they were recieving so many inquiries from customers. :shrug:

When I was looking to buy an EQ6 Pro. I called their store and was given Andrews email address. I was extremely happy with their help and service via email. I've never had a problem with Andrews.

I tackled Lee on this, and he explained the cessation of email as an option by saying that he was spending so long each day helping out people and answering questions about all manner of things - when much of the time the people didn't go on to buy from him. So he decided to get rid of email, and the time wasters, and concentrate his efforts on those that buy from him.

It makes some sort of sense I suppose, but I still think email is essential these days. If you have his email address he will reply, except he only reads his messages at home after work, so don't expect a fast reply !

I know people have great things to say about his service, but frankly, I've tried to buy from him three separate times, and each time he's needed to get back to me with some information - which he didn't go on to provide so I just buy elsewhere.

I have been looking at the 132 flt. Fed up with collimation with other scopes and this is the road that I may go down.
Sheer craftsmanship by the looks of that scope. Look forward to finding out how you go with it.

Ian.... Craftsmanship is the exact word I'd use to describe my Megrez 90... build quality is unlike anything I've seen in the same price range.

I can well understand this. It takes time to respond with wordy replies and time costs money. Someone has to pay for that time.

His prices are normally the best around on any given item, so take your pick, best prices, or pay a bit more for your convenience.

I didn't intend for this thread to become a slagging match about Andrews but suffice to say I was promised an email contact address and it wasn't forthcoming from Lee after waiting for a week. I then enquired with Cris at Astronomy Alive and had immediate response and a better price for total package that I bought.

I was just a customer wanting service !

I am very satisfied with my new scope and the service I received .... end of story.

Nice scope Steve. I considered the FLT132 a while back, but have gone down the Tak path instead. While I say that though, I still have my Megrez 80 and love it to death. Mechanically it probably rivals the Taks I have, and if the focusers were apples for apples instead of RP's for crayfords, it'd come down to a preference in glass.

In their price range I reckon William Optics have it in the bag as far as sheer desirability goes. Great scope - have fun with it!

Very nicely thanks Trevor ..... haven't done a lot ..... tried to do some imaging last night but neighbours decided to have a bonfire and I ended up with a sore throat from the acrid smoke that billowed across my observatory so I gave up ..... bar stewards !
