Hi everyone,
The evening on the 19th the seeing looked rather nice and after dinner I quickly got out there and was confirmed when I got Jup on the screen..
Took a dozen avi`s from about 7pm till about 9pm. Managed two good ones with some patches of extra good seeing in them. I know they are not in the league of the big guns, but I am really stoked to capture a hint of detail in Ganymede!..:)
With 6" newtonian with 5x powermate and extension tube....Best 400 frames out of 2300...with Toucam
Image slightly upscaled to 800 x 600.
cheers Gary

That is bloody good, Gary! Heaps of detail, nice and sharp! And detail on ganymede! Very well done.
Perhaps a slight gamma reduction would give a bit more contrast but it has a lovely eyepiece-view quality about it now.
Well done, Gary. A nice image, indeed:thumbsup:
Onya Gary, wow looks great to me mate !
Nice detail and a well defined Ganymede too.

Thanks Mike..(thanks for the tip), Matt, Andrew, Alex and Ric!
First night since March that the seeing has been so good! Its been horrid for most of the time here lately! Has to be real good with only 6 inches a 5x powermate and a extension tube! as the contrast is very low.
Thanks Guys...

Holy cow Gary! That is awesome for a 6" scope.
So much fine detail and lovely colour plus detail on Ganymede. It is scary to think about what you could do with a larger aperture.
Very well done. :)

Thanks everyone for looking and words of encouragement! :)
Jen, Just get yourself a Philips SPC900nc webcam a 1-1/4" adapter for it and you are on your way! and a good 3x barlow or 5x barlow. I have a Toucam Pro 2 840k but I hear that the 900nc is better again, A nice DMK would be very nice indeed if you have a little extra.
cheers Gary

Yep... An SPC900NC + a decent 3x barlow (5x powermate if you can stretch) if you can stretch even further, get a DMK/DBK camera...
:eyepop: that sounds awsome but explain that in english LMAO :screwy::screwy::help:
ok here comes the big question how much would all this cost me
and yes im sitting down
so if i went into the shop they would know what i was talking about if i say i want a SPC900nc (lol sounds like im talking baked beans haha) and a dmk/dbk :screwy:

the SPC900NC you can buy online, ebay usually has a few, as does Telescopes-astronomy.com.au. The 5x barlow or powermate, any astronomy shop will know what you're looking for.. and a DBK or DMK camera most astronomy shops online will have a fair idea, if they dont stock them, they will likely point you in the direction of someone who does.
Prices.
SPC900NC (without adapter) $75 ~ $100
SPC900NC (with adapter) $145ish
Adapters (www.moggadapters.com) $45 iirc
5x barlow depending on brand between $49 and $280
DMK21AU (monochrome) camera $449 or there abouts
DBK21AU (color) camera $449 also...
Alex.
:eyepop: wow thanks Alex thats cheaper than i thought awsome i think im going shopping soon lol

Hey Jen,
Try the Wanted section of the IIS Ice Trade Classifieds first. I picked up my Toucam II (predecessor to the SPC900NC) with the eyepiece adaptor and long exposure mod (to take photos of dim clusters etc) for only $100 from a fellow IISer, after I posted a wanted ad there.
Try there first, you should get some interest from people who are upgrading their webcam. Keep in mind the modded version sells for $285 new, so a second hand one of those may cost you up to that. The difference in my pictures is evident in my posts by using the webcam, all I need to do now is align better and try out some DSO's with it.
Cheers

Yes, try posting a wanted add Jen! you might get a older Toucam for very little which should be fine for starters..a 5x barlow might be a bit harder to pickup secondhand.
cheers
:DOk cool thanks Chris and Gary i might do that. At the moment a shop owner would laugh when they seen me come into the shop when i say i want all this stuff, they would be rubbing there hands together saying dam this chick is gonna buy the place out hahaha with not knowing what the hell she is really buying or how the hell she is going to use it :lol:
:whistle::whistle::whistle:
(wanted 1 tall dark handsome :doh:oops im in the wrong forums for that):P:P
cheers
