Could anyone please give me advice on my final thoughts which have changed a couple of times so far on my quest for a new scope. I am looking at the Williams Optics Megrez 110 ED APO f/5.9 over the Orion and Skywatcher 120mmED. Both are doublets however the W/O has a faster f ratio compare with f/7.5 for the others. I have heard W/o quality is excellent and the focusers with 10:1 are good. For $1800 from Andrews it is the OTA only and will be used for mainly astrophotography.

Thanks

hi Mark, l too am doing the refractor merry-go-round, the Orion/Skywatcher series use FPL-53 glass and the W.O 110 uses FPL-51 so you should expect slightly better colour correction in the Orion/Skywatcher.
l have a Saxon ED100, same as Orion and the colour correction is great.
W.O focusers are generally very good and l think the 110 is 2.5" which should take a heavy camera without any trouble.
Both seem excellent value for money.

Hi MarkI am just wondering how you got on with your refractor. I am currently going through the same thing. But I am tossing up between the Megrez90 and the 110.Did you go for the 110, and if so, how do you find the quality?ThanksDarrell

Hi darrellx,
I finally went for the William Optics Flt 110 triplet. A beautiful looking scope with an excellent 10:1 focuser. I also went for the Megrez 70mm as a guide scope and have imaged through that and the reults are good. I paid $2700 from astronomy alive excellent service for the 110 and 400 for the 70mm. I love both scopes but the Flt 110 is great. Good luck. The reason I went for this scope was the reputation of W/O and the images people were producing from this scope from the W/O website. Also Cris(owner) of Astronomy Alive and >40 scopes he has owned said this is his main imaging scope so I went the trust line and could not be happier.

I'd be choosing the longer focal ratio for a doublet-(for colour correction). That's why I chose the M90 at F6.9 over the M110 at F5.9 or M88 at F5.8. If you have enough spare for the triplet, I'd certainly get the WO FLT 110.and chose the shorter focal ratio. But I'm happy with my WO M90 as it does double duty as guide and imaging scope on the LX200-ACF. And its a great grab and go scope for short trips to the country.
