Jupiter from last night - 17/08

Hi all

This image was captured in variable seeing, never peaking to more than just above average.

We've had clear skies recently, but a continuing run of horrible seeing and it doesn't look like ending any time soon.

Loads of detail and contrast there!
Actually imaged Jup last night as well at about 8:30pm and the seeing sounds the same as what you had..

Sounds like the weather I've been having here Mike, wishie washie seeing definitely dampens my spirits when it comes to imaging... I've not been out in nearly a week :eek:

Thats a great image despite the seeing, you've done well to get some fine detail out of the polar regions..

Is it a sum of say 100x1sec with time in between?

Thanks guys. Was good to be out there again, though it was bloody cold and i'm finding it harder and harder to motivate myself to get out there lately. Don't know if it's just the run of bad seeing or part of a natural cycle of motivated and unmotivated.


I use mono+RGB, so I capture each filter at 30fps (1/30s exposure), for about 50 seconds per channel. There's about 10-15 seconds between each channel for changing the filter, changing settings and adjusting focus.

So I'd capture about 1500 frames for each colour channel, and for this seeing, I stacked about 550-650 frames in each channel in registax.

Again, a cracker Joop Mike. I wonder, mmmmmmm, where the hell can you go with this now, he?. Is it possible, to stack every Jupiter youve done over the years to one mega pic?. Obviously the subs that have the same orientation of its rotation.

I can see why it would look a bit purple.. It has a blueish tinge on this laptop but these days I've found that if it looks too blue on this laptop, it's usually just right for most people's LCD's.

If I process the colour to look right on my laptop, it's usually too red for everyone else.
