I did not try it with The Sky but I use SkyMap. It doesn’t have specific HEQ5 driver but it works fine when you select ASCOM’s Celestron driver.

Its not natively supported last I read, but install ASCOM 5, use TeleAPI and I would expect if there is a driver for the EQ6 it should be okay.

You can use ASCOM with EQMOD driver and it will work excellent. However as Mattew already mentioned you'll have to run ASCOM in the Sky through TeleAPI.

I use The Sky 6 with my EQ6-Pro without any issues.. As per the Synscan instruction manual, plug it in via the supplied RS232-RJ11 cable, open the sky6, open the telescope setup control window, and select 'Celestron Nexstar 5i'

Click connect.

The sky goes to night vision mode and the telescope slews to any object with rather impeccable accuracy just by right clicking the object and clicking Slew.

Alex,

I can't find 'Celestron Nexstar 5i' in the drop down menu. I'm using version serious astron. 6.0.0.56.

Is there something I'm missing. Help is appreciated.

I'm not familiar with that software.. does it use ASCOM drivers?

If so, you can download the drivers for the Celestron scopes at the ASCOM website... (google has the address!)

Install the drivers into the ASCOM platform then you should be right...

Cheers..
Alex.

Just select "celestron Nextstar (non GPS) model" under TheSky V6 works with my HEQ5Pro OK.

I thought you could download the latest Celestron scope plug in from ASCOM, for ASCOM, and select Celestron GPS, or 5i & 8i, or, what I use is the "Skywatcher" driver. It should have something on it in your mounts hand book. You know "if all else fails, read the destructions";)

PS: you could also look at EQMOD. Just Google for it.

yeah, the ascom website has the plugin for celestron scopes, download that, install it and select the celestron gps/5i/8i plugin.

In the EQ6 synscan manual it says to use the Nexstar 5i/8i driver....

I use the ASCOM Celestron 5i/8i driver for my EQ6 with StarryNight Pro. Be sure to set set your location/time/timezone in the driver options to match these paramaters as specified in The Sky. For some reason, I found that some older ASCOM drivers tended to cause StarryNight to reset its assumed location/time so that everything went nicely skewiff. This may be a cause of your problems...

Cheers,
Mark.

Oh thats what I thought (pardon my stupidity) but unfortunately my laptop does not come with a 9 pin serial port.

Oh well looks like I'll need an adapter.
