My first contribution - Jupiter 2008/08/07

Hi all.

I'm Luismi and i write from Spain. I'm 22 years old and i live in a small city near the mediterranean coast, and i've been imaging planets and moon since 2006, first with a small 60 refractor and since june 2008 with a 150 mak-cass.

Here is the image:

The image was taken the 08/07 at 21:06 UT, with 150 mak-cass + 3x barlow lens. Philips SPC900NC webcam with UV/IR block filter. I know that i have a long way in front of me, but i think that is a good start in planetary images.

Jupiter is now in bad conditions from Spain, because the planet isn't high enough.

I hope to learn a lot of the forum people.

I stacked about 900 frames, with quality filter at 85%. The image is the result of a 120 sec. video at 10 fps. I think that with a 90 sec. video i can define more the planet details, is that correct?

The time of your video should not exceed 120 seconds... at higher focal lengths like 6000mm + I dont go over 90seconds in order to preserve image detail.

That's a good start Luismi, the colours look quite good. Looks like you were really let down by the seeing and the altitude.

What camera are you using? In poor seeing, stacking 900 frames sounds like too much to me. Try stacking just 400-500 to see the difference it makes. It'll be a bit grainier but should have more detail.

Ok, i'll try to reprocess the video with 90 or 95% quality filter and i'll see if i can have more detail in the image.
