Something passed by at 6:16 tonight in the sky that was as bright as the ISS.
Travelling from west to East. I’ll look it up later.

Back to the astronomy in the back door.
I’ll look out for it again in 90 mins or so.

Hi Ian,

Hubble passed in that direction a couple of minutes before 6:14, and was predicted to be mag 1.6. Might have been this that you saw? I didn't catch it tonight, but saw it yesterday at about the same time, and noticed that it brightened substantially in the 30 seconds before it entered the Earth's shadow. Look out for it again tomorrow night at about 6:11pm - it will pass very close to the Moon (passing in front as seen from Wellington Pt?), and then close to Jupiter. There is an seperate post about this.

yeah... i saw HST tonight from work.... got the spot all set up to image it passing the moon tomorrow night.. :)

Thanks for the info. I have seen the ISS and many satellites pass by. But this was ultra bright. I was looking at Jupiter then looking at the thing passing by thinking that it would as bright as Jupiter but on a smaller scale in size.

I'll look out for it tomorrow. I was back out 90mins after it passed by looking for the return of it but missed it by a couple of mins

You had an Iridium flare (-0.8) at 18:05, and the HST at 18:13 (+1.7). HST does flare given the proper orientation, so I suspect that you got lucky!
