Corona Australis from Duckadang

Hi everyone,

Here is my only succesful shot from Duckadang:

13 x 640s @ 800 ISO @ f/7.5 with the Nikon D70 and the 80 ED on the autoguided Vixen GP DX.

It is also my first shot with a new masterdark that took 10 1/2 hours of exposures in the fridge.

Looks like the nebula has been on fire & left a plume of smoke.

Stunning Erwin.. Just shows you what a dark sky can do to improve astrophotography! 640s is a long exposure. You must have had good polar alignment and guiding.

The reflection nebulae around the bottom star are NGC 6726, NGC 6727, NGC6729, the reflection nebula around the top star is IC4812, the dark nebula is Be157, and the globular cluster is NGC 6723. M4 is the bigger cousin in Scorpius. I don't know the designation of the galaxy at the bottom, if it has any it must be a pretty obscure one. Polar alignment was good during this shot, but the next night way off for some reason which costed me the Helix shot and a lot of socializing that I usually do while the autoguiding is running. :tasdevil:

The reason why I reshot this part of the sky again is because the last time it was pretty low in the sky with a lot of haze and slightly out of focus. This time I took it overhead and before the usual fog rolled in at around 1 in the morning.

I find this part one of the best in the sky, but the brightness contrast between objects is very high and therefore hard to process.

If you make a remark to Tony Surma about his line marker he makes you a territory too! :work:
