First attempt at the GRS! I made lots of mistakes in the capture, wrong codec, difficulty in focusing the red channel, large dust bunny that got in the way etc. But the final result was better than expected.

I took Graeme's advice and spent a little extra time aligning the RGB channels for the one moon present which was harder than I thought it would be...

DMK21AF04.AS
C8 2x powermate
Captured in IC Capture, three 1 min captures
Orion filters and wheel
Processed in Registax, Astra Image, Images plus and PS CS3

Nice work Jim, some nice detail.

Unfortunately the wrong codec does show - it seems to be more squished than usual? Also it appears a little overexposed in the EQ region. But a nice result still, well done!

Thanks Mike,

I was dissapointed when I discovered that I forgot to load my capture scheme and captured everything with the wrong codec. I had to save it as an avi with virtualdub and all three channels ended up with a funny squished look and vertical lines which prevented me from being more aggressive with the LR deconvolution. It also was way too dark, so I may have overdone the contrast in PS.
Thanks for all the help though, I won't make that mistake again

You're not alone there, Jim. I've captured in the wrong codec too many times to count. Usually IC Capture remembers your previous settings, including the codec - but when IC Capture crashes or freezes up, next time you start it'll be on the "DV Video Codec" which is probably what happened to you.

I know just how frustrating it is :) especially when the seeing is good.

Everything else aside, that's quite a picture. I was at the Houston Dynamos (soccer) that night so no imaging for me. And now, the tropical storm...

A lot of detail there despite the slightly squishy shape, and the moon came out really well. Well done. Looking forward to more.

Thanks Dave - I wanted to go out and image the double transit last night, but I didn't due to the tropical storm. The night was actually clear and beautiful, but I would have had to hurry in breaking down my equipement.

Thanks Graeme - I'm going to need a bit of practice in aligning those moons and working with masks and layers in PS..........
