Excellent work Scott. Nice tight stars. Dynamic range maybe a little suppressed but really light the detail in the highlights. Well done.

Nice. Maybe a little too much yellow IMHO in the colour balance, but very well executed.

Superb focus and guiding, and while M8 is bright, you've not wimped out and given shallow exposure depth with the DSLR, hence given it real structure and suppressed any noise
Well done. Keep it up !

Thanks for the input all :)
Though Ive imaged this plenty of times in the past, I really did want to try and get a nice deep image, on a night with no wind to buffet the scope and reasonably good seeing.

I think Id rate only M42 as a more difficult object to image in its entirety, that is to show detail in the brightest, and faintest parts.

The OAG was using one of the stars in the nearby Triffid Nebula as a guidestar.

looks nice mate... :) a bit too red in the highlights for my liking, but tracking, exposure and composition are all great... Well done.

I had a go at reprocessing, and a much bigger version is here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/uploads/Lagoon%20neb%209x10minsiso400uvirlp s10inch350d2_filtered.jpg)

Very smooth Scott, and good neb extension, but a tad monochromatic. Alexs tweak is an improvement IMO.

When I neutralise the sky background it always seems to come out the orange colour. I might re image it one night without the nebula filter and see what its like

before neutralizing the sky, try adjusting the color balance...

In photo shop you will have Cyan/Red, Magenta/Green and yellow/blue. Go a bit less on the red slider, a bit towards magenta and a touch towards blue... then neutralize the sky...

It can take a while to find the correct color balance...

Thanks AlexN
Yes your tips were most helpful. Heres is a less monochromatic version (http://http://www.iceinspace.com.au/uploads/Lagoon%20neb%209x10minsiso400uvirlp s10inch350dbetter.jpg) based on those tips. Theres now some subtle greens in near the centre of the Lagoon.
