I'm not really into astronomy myself, by by a freak chance I caught this meteor on camera while I was trying to catch a volcanic eruption. The location was a few km south of Mt Semeru in East Java, looking NW at 21:37 on 27/7/2008. This images is slightly cropped on the bottom, but apart from that it is from a full frame image from a Canon 1Ds MkIII - so the original is big. I've also attached the volcanic eruption I was waiting for and the combination of the two (after all, it all happened within a few hours). Can't help good luck - eh?

All I can say is wow! Quite a catch you nabbed there! A nice combination of the two as well which I'm sure will end up on a wall somewhere in your house :)

I would send it to Sky & Telescope, I am sure they would love it, plus you would get a bit of a buzz out of seeing your picture in a magazine!

I wonder how many astronomers ever get such a shot - Volcano eruption + space shot in one image!

I to think that should end up in a magazine as the shot of the year!
