Star sizes look good to me :shrug: If you think they're too big maybe you're suffering the early stages of starless syndrome! :whistle::)

You could lose some of the dark halation though. Very pretty colour! Gotta get me some of that + Ha for my Swan.

Too much of a magenta cast over the image Peter. I feel you could have balanced the colours better. Lovely details though. The additional data is a real treat.

Top shelf Peter, as expected, very nice, only an RC can give that sharp detail to die for. But there is a tad lack of 3D effect?.

Jase, I mulled over it for a bit...(trust me: there are many variations on my hard drive) there are also some images on the web that are show the faint stuff to be distinctly blue.....And G'Bany's rendition makes it look almost yellow. But I also suspect there is some H-beta
in there somewhere ;) so ran with magenta.

Deep sky colour accuracy is a tricky subject at best :)

Indeed, colour is very subjective. This one I feel is certainly an improvement. Out of interest, did you log stretch the data? Looking at the histogram, there would appear to be more range to squeeze from the shadows.

I do indeed stretch the data (log, gamma , you name it!) , which is where the trouble lies for light polluted imagers such as your truly. There is shadow data..along with Mercury vapor, Sodium and other highly excited heavier metals...

In that sort of environment, I just don't know what's real, man made or self induced (looking elsewhere on the web helps for a reality check)

I need to get out into the country more :)

Quite possibly the best M17 image I've seen from any astrophotographer Peter .... particularly the second posting, slightly wider field callibrated version. You've managed to cut through the usual "blob" appearance of the head of the nebula to reveal some great details.
