Jupiter was at its maximum elevation in South Florida of 42 degrees when my wife Gail and I took this photo with our CGE 1100. The photos in this group prove that Australia is where you want to be this year for Jovian photography.
Are we a getting a little heavy handed in the sharpening/saturation cosmetics?
:D

Hi Dave, :welcome: to IceInSpace! That's a great image for the altitude, very detailed.

I do think though that it's a bit overprocessed in the attempt to bring out more detail.

What processing did you do?

Can you post a version that's straight after stacking, without any wavelets etc?

Also, only 200 frames is quite low for what looks to be pretty good seeing. You could try stacking 400-600 if they are all pretty good quality and you'll get a smoother result.

:welcome: to IIS!

As mike said, for the altitude, it shows a lot of good detail..

Welcome Dave,

A very good result considering the altitude. It looks like you were a little bit heavy handed with the saturation and sharpening but that is up to you to decide.

Looks very promising and I'm looking forward to more of your work.

Welcome to IIS.

Nice image and could be a little less processed and more frames.

Hope to see more from you.

Nice image. I used to live in Florida and know that you'll get some really good skies for planetary imaging. I'm in Texas now and basically am using this year to refine my techniques for when Jupiter is in better position. The people on this board have helped me a lot (although I'm a little slow sometimes, lol). Have fun with it!

We got some decent photos of the GRS last night. This time I decided to give the entire procedure on one of my blog pages. I have made it possible for anyone to download 1. the movies or 2. the unsharpened frames. Naturally I am dying to see how you would have processes these for yourself. And I'd like you to give your assessment of the seeing.

The image edited by Gail is nicer... Whilst pushing the wavelets hard does bring out alot more detail, it also produces a darker, somewhat off colored image..
