jupiter 26-7-08 - seeing? what seeing?

Well... Its dodgy, but im posting it anyway.

6m focal length was far to much for the conditions.. but I've become rather addicted to seeing a big jupiter on the ccd, Cant bring myself to go back to the 3x :D...

This was the best of 5 captures taken at 10:30pm while jupiter was around 71° up...

After seeing the video quality after the first 5 I packed the camera in and decided on some observing instead....

I feel for you. I had pretty good seeing but my transparency was bad and then clouds rolled in as I was looking for Neptune. Together though, we had perfect skies, lol. Too bad it doesn't work like that.

Your image still has quite a bit of detail in it anyway. Nice.

Was that taken with your 8" Skywatcher? Certainly more detail in your pic than I managed to capture.

Thanks for the comments guys.. I figured that I may as well get the practice while the sky was clear...

Oggie Doggie : Yep. taken with the 8" skywatcher, 5x powermate and ToUcam.

It was a little under exposed, hence the slight onion rings.. but I think there may have been a very fine cloud cover, as the image on the screen was changing quite a lot during capture....

Yep. Colour is OK...but the effects of the seeing are very evident.

Still...good for you to get the practice. You'll eventually get the hang of it all.

Get yourself familiar with the weather charts (jetstream maps etc).

Matt... I've started looking at the maps, and figure, we have crappy conditions 90% of the time... Gotta get some images sometime... :) I noticed that thrusday last week when we were under HEAVY cloud, the jetstream map was brilliant :P typical....

And you are allowed to say 'I told you so!' in the case of the seeing being horrible and it hardly being worth it..

I just like playing with my toys! :D
