Hey... Was up at the crack of dawn today for work, then work got canceled due to a mechanical failure of one of our machines... I figured since I was up I'd go take some bird photos...
Heres the results...
All taken with 350D + 70-200 F/4L @ F/4... I should have my 300mm F/2.8 and 2xTC by monday/tuesday next week.. Should help :)

yeah mate, they are cropped fairly heavily actually... they are about 50% of the original image size, then resized for web.

Thanks Matt. I was actually pretty shocked at how sharp they were.. I've taken a lot of shots through the 70-200, but not that have come out like that! :)
Heres one more from this afternoons outing...

Lovely sharp images. I'll be interested to see how you go with the TC. I got a kenko X2 that doesn't AF past 200 on my 70-300 tamron. You'll do better with the faster lens no doubt. Still, these shots show the birds really nicely.
Ving - its a dusky moorhen.

Thanks guys... I found a great spot today...there's a few Kites in the area, gulls, pelicans.. and the cream of the crop, a pair of white bellied sea eagles nesting in a tree less than 20m away... :)

Can anyone identify this bird for me?
I took this picture just outside Mitchell in SW Queensland about 2 weeks ago.

mmm thats a shame.. its really hard to say... perhaps a kite, going mainly on its coloring, but without a closer look I cant be sure.

I think that it is a whistling kite or Black Kite, I have been seeing them for the last five weeks all over Queensland and the Northern Territory

Yeah the bigger image sure looks like a whistling kite to me..
I remember back when I lived in the NT, I always used to think the whistling kites were wedge tailed eagles... then I saw a mature wedge tail flying within 4m of a whistling kite and the difference was immediately apparent :D

Hey Alex
Excellent portfolio of photos – I’ve just returned from a 10 day absence due to Qld Astrofest. The larger versions you showed me at Astrofest looked fabulous – top stuff mate, really good shots.
Cheers
Dennis
