A friendly reminder or two..

1) Please keep spam and off-topic stuff out of informative equipment discussions or other threads. The moderators and I generally do very little in terms of moderation cause you guys generally play fair and nice, but occassionally a few people will get on a roll replying to each other with spam and off-topic stuff and the thread turns from informative to the point where people will stop reading it. If there's anything interesting at the end of the thread, i'm sure it never gets read.

Most friendly banter is fine, and we let most of it slide.. but if you feel the need to "chat", get on skype or IRC or something.

2) The censored-word filter is there for a reason, please don't try and bypass it by mis-spelling the word or substituting a number instead of a letter. I know most of us are adults and aren't offended, but this is a family site and we have members younger than 16, and I know for a fact that some people are offended. So please, just don't do it. There's absolutely no need for anyone to swear to get their point across.

I know it's annoying when you're trying to type "d.ick smith", but I'm happy to accept that.

We have almost 400 members now, and it is going to continue on growing, so we all have to be mindful of the posting guidelines to ensure that things don't spiral out of control as the membership, and therefore daily post count, increases.

Most of the time the community moderates itself which is great, but the next step will be asking the moderators to start clamping down on spam and other things a bit harder. Let's not let it get to that.

Now there's no "naughty corner", noone is in trouble.. just a friendly reminder.

Happy to hear your feedback or thoughts, either here or via PM.

Yeah, how come when I complained about the swearing in a thread, my post was deleted and the swearing was allowed to stay?

And how come when I replied to that soon to be deleted message, I was left looking like a fool posting gibberish?

Check your PM Ken. If you're offended by those words I'll add them to the filter. You didn't complain about other swearing in the past?

If you're offended by something, PM me or a moderator and we'll deal with it. Replying to the thread just causes other people to reply to you, and the original topic of the thread is lost. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

I have complained in the past and it was taken care of by a moderator. Thanks Paul [ponders]

makes great sense Mike , it is a fine line as what makes this site so great is the aussie banter around the topics that we love. too much of it and the important info gets lost, none of it and it loses personality.

There is also a red icon in the top bar of every post which is for reporting posts which may require moderator action.

I think you guys are doing a great job.I for one have had several comments removed and a pm or two from Mike about my behaviour. All of it warranted.(not) He he he J/K. I am a person with my own opinion and view on life and if the powers that be need to delete what I type then power to them. It doesn't stop me being me and some people get to see what I have typed before it gets deleted. :D :ashamed: :poke:
