Congrats! The next step is to set it up and fit it to your scope.

The most important issue is ensuring that your encoder mount hardware has zero slippage. This is easy to test in daytime viewing a distant object and checking the raw encoder display. Spin your scope around full circle in both directions a few times and check that the display numbers are the same each time when lined up on your target.

You are going to see so many new DSO's you'll wonder how you lived without it ;)

Thanks Geoff. Yes, I have to put the encoders back on the 12" now. Took lots of photos before I took them off and removed the various bits Scott had added to ensure that they moved freely along axis. I've also read, a lot of times, posts from Gary insisting on the daytime encoder testing - I'll do it. :thumbsup:

I used to use a palm pilot and Dave Ek box based dsc and the accuracy was often atrocious. That prompted me to upgrade to the Argo and it was only after I got it that i discovered that encoder slippage was the cause of all my grief.
It only takes a few minutes to do and is well worth it to confirm that all systems are go. :thumbsup:

Geoff, in another thread you mentioned the AN resetting since you were losing power? Do I understand that you had no internal batteries and were running off external power and you kept losing power to the power cable? Nothing subtle here of which I should be aware?

I understand that if you have sufficient charge in the internal batteries the system will just switch back to them if external power is lost and not miss a beat?

Erick yes it should and does switch to internal power if external power is removed, except my internal batteries were flat. The problem I experienced is an external intermittant wiring fault and not the fault of the argo navis.
