Hi John

That's a great image, some good detail in there. I hope you don't mind, I've had a quick 2 minute play at processing it in photoshop - using levels to set the black point for the background, and also adjusting the white point mainly in the green and blue channels (blue especially) to fix up the colour balance.

Nicely done!

Great, and thanks.
I started playing around with it last night, after the fog dropped in. I'm not quite sure what the colour balance should be with no IR filter in my webcam, I know you do though:) so now I have an image to reference.

Thanks for you help and interest. John

No worries, John.

An IR/UV blocking filter will definitely help with colour balance to ensure the channels don't leak into each other too much. With a OSC camera there'll always be a slight amount but you can reduce it with the UV/IR filter.

Which webcam are you using?

Another way to ensure an accurate colour balance is to split the colour channels and then recombine them, using something like AstraImage.

Hi, It's a Logitech Notebook Pro CCD, off Ebay for $25.00.
I use wxAstrocapture which lets you to play with white balance, but it's hard to get right, I think your right it needs a bit more blue. Thanks again.
John

That image has got potential and shows that your scope is very capable of revealing some nice detail.

All the best.
