What a great addition to the Dr Who series--Firstly the behind the scenes of the episode at hand and secondly Catherine Tate the Dr's current side kick, I have long been a fan of Catherine Tate-- she just has to be one of the great British comediennes

I too have enjoyed the Dr Who behind the scenes although the introductory episode to this season was a bit cheesy.

Come on who writes these things, Titanic, Poseidon, Fifith Element etc and the Dr's pathetic line "I'm the Dr, I'm a time lord 900 years old, I'll save you etc". Even the technology was off, teleporters, forklifts, robots and a box third rate cy-borg.

Unfortunately I cannot share your like of Catherine Tate, a good comedian possibly but not a Dr sidekick, bring back K-9.

IMO

:D

Agree 100% with you Trevor.

I've not been nearly as impressed with this current series so far, compared to the three previous seasons.

And as for Donna:rolleyes:

I've got to admit that I'm quite happy with new companion Donna. Having never seen her before her appearance in "The Runaway Bride" I had no preconceived notions concerning her at all and I'm quite enjoying her character in the current series. Give her a chance; I'm sure she'll grow on you eventually.
Must admit that the first 2 stories in this season have left me slightly underwhelmed but again; give it a chance.
I don't think that any series in the history of television hasn't produced the odd dud and it's only due to the extraordinarily high standards of New Who that has put us in the enviable position where we can say "Hmm. That wasn't perfect."
Tonights episode with the Ood has, in my opinion, put the current series back onto the top shelf again.
Anyway, wait 'till next week; THE SONTARANS ARE BACK!!
WOOHOO!!:thumbsup::eyepop::stargaze ::clap::party::cool:

Don't worry, mate.

We're confirmed 100% Dr Who fans...

But I think folk are entitled to express their opinions if they feel certain episodes or characters are below par. It can't all be over-the-top praise and bouquets. A few negative comments don't mean we're writing the whole shebang off!

As for Donna...I also had no preconceptions. She just annoys me...and that's all there is to say about that:lol:

I just wish she'd have a little faith in a bloke who's seen a bit of the universe!

Donna looks like an alien. Companions should at least be hot. Brits are extremely inbred.

I agree Phil, I been waiting for the Sontarans to make an appearance.

I think from here on the series will really start to hot up.

I hope BBC keeps the good Doctor going for another 30 years.

Sontarans aren't that bad .... they have a Archille's Heal .... looking forward to seeing them again nonetheless , they're like old friends.

Wonder if the writers have considered having the Doctor go to the Arthurian era ( with the Doctor aka Merlin doing battle once again with The Master ) ?

anyone noticed rose tyler in one of the recent episodes ?

(makes you wonder if she'll ever make a comeback? :) )

Hope she does

Yep...saw her and wondered the same thing.

It seems odd she'd show up for just a few seconds without it ever leading to a re-emergence.

I hope Rose returns...and Donna can head off to make someone a wonderful nagging (shrieking) fishwife!!!

Geez guys I really didnt expect so much bagging of Catherine Tate!
Has anyone by chance watched the Catherine Tate show?
While her show is a completely different kettle of fish compared to Dr Who's sidekick her show does highlight what a talent she really is.
Hopefully this talent will shine through in up coming episodes.

Nah. Not bagging...just expressing a preference and an opinion of her in that particular role. Perhaps that's unpalatable to those like yourself who've expressed a liking for her...but that's the way it is. I'm sure she's very popular among those people who love her work, either in the series or as a comedienne.

It just appears a few of us do not fit into that category, but that's OK. Each to their own.

No-one has truly universal appeal.

I was assuming your original post was both a commendation for Catherine but also a call for discussion?

Anyway...long live the doctor!!!

Likewise I have seen her do comedy which she's good at but she's not at all like all like any of the previous Dr Who side kicks.

This (more or less) happened in the final season of the old series (1989) in a story called "Battlefield" when Morgaine and Mordred arrive in current day Britain from a parallel universe. They recognise the Doctor as Merlin saying "But your manner betrays you...Do you not ride the ship of time, does it not deceive the senses, being greater within than without?"
Turns out that the Doctor becomes Merlin in a future adventure that he is not yet aware of!?
I've long held a theory that one of the reasons that Dr Who is so popular and has such appeal is that he is essentially just a modern re-telling of Merlin, one of the most appealing and iconic figures in myth and legend and a truly powerful symbol from the collective unconsciousness.
OK, OK, I'll go and have a good lie down and a cup of tea.:screwy:
I've also got another theory that most modern sci fi adventures (Star Wars et al) are thinly veiled re-tellings of the Arthurian mythos:eyepop:
OK, OK, TWO cups of tea!
Oh, and by the way, I reckon Donna is tops!
BTW Matt, not arguing or disagreeing, just expressing an opinion, same as yourself:whistle:

The Catherine Tate show is good, took a while to get into, but after that its hilarious. The first 3 seasons of Dr Who have been brilliant, even been telling my friends that I watch it. But, this season hasn't been too great so far, I'm not really sold on CT as the Dr's companion & the writing hasn't been that great, IMHO.

But I'm still gonna watch it.
