Hi Guys, seeing that I'm having some concerns about the Flats I'm producing I have decided to build the trusty Light box.

All is good, and the box is finished, minus the globes which, after trying Dick smith, and Jaycar, I'm at a lose of where to go and what to ask for.

Could some kind person let me know what I should be asking for and where to get them. ;)

The box is not that big, about 200mm square just right for the Tak.

Also is there any sort of dimmer switch available for a 12 volt system.

Thanks In advance.

Leon

Leon,
I built one and used white LEDS from dick smiths.

There is a description of what I did in this thread -> http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=33637

Instead of adjusting the light output of the LEDS which might effect the colour output, I adjust the shutter speed. I have some at 1/4 sec and that is too slow. 1/8 sec would be better. I attached an image from PS raw importer showing the colour blend and it looks pretty close to balanced to me but I'm yet to try with my new custom white balance set to offset my CLS filter which makes everything blue.

[edit]
The LEDS I bought where stock number Z3980 5mm White Lite LED 2000mcd.
$7.80 for 4 plus 35c for a 5watt 120 ohm limiting resitor.
I run them off 12 volts and they are in parallel.

Jaycar should have been fine, they have a large range of all sorts of globes, including reflector-less Halogen globes.
Bunnings also has Halogen globes.
Did you need Halogen's or LED's?
From Jaycar:
5W & 10W 12v Halogen inserts (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?whichpage=3&pagesize=10&keywords=&CATID=21&SUBCATID=659&form=CAT&SPECIAL=&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=)
20W & 50W 12v Halogen inserts (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?whichpage=1&pagesize=10&keywords=&CATID=21&SUBCATID=659&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&SPECIAL=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=)
1 - 3W LED's (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productResults.asp?whichpage=2&pagesize=10&keywords=&CATID=33&SUBCATID=878&form=CAT&SPECIAL=&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=)
Dimmable LED driver for LED's (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=AA0596&CATID=21&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=402)
Superbright 5mm White LED (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=ZD0280&CATID=33&keywords=&SPECIAL=&form=CAT&ProdCodeOnly=&Keyword1=&Keyword2=&pageNumber=&priceMin=&priceMax=&SUBCATID=573)

Dimming the halogens would be more difficult, though a DC motor controller would do it.

EDIT: Dimming white LED's should have no effect on colour if using a PWM dimmer, but test to be sure.

Good one Robin and MrB thank you very much,

If you want to run them off a 9v battery or something, you'll need to adjust the limiting resistor to suit.
And never put reverse voltage on an LED or you'll pop it.

in addendum to Robins last, for your reference, the longer of the two legs on the diode is the positive.

Thanks Alex now I didn't think of that, but I would have been scratching the head when it came to fitting them.

Each LED is sealed in a static bag with a product page describing it's requirements. You'll need these if you want to run that limiting resistor webpage for a different supply voltage. It was bin day today so all mine where tossed :)

Not that I electrically inclined, but I used LEDs from Jaycar, and use 12 volts. I actually use the power from the dew heater thing, and this is "controllable". Try that.
