Hi
I used my Q guider cam to video the dissapearance of Antares. I expected it to blink out, but it didnt, it faded away slower. Antares is a red giant and has a bigger angular size than many stars seen from Earth, that would explain why. I was using 1 millisecond exposures and only a small part of the chip, so the frame rate would be nearly 1000 fps. This is in real time, note how it fades, not immediately blinks out
File is here, a zipped compressed .avi file only 20kb in size

Well done, Scott.

I had heard beforehand that Antares was expected to do this, so I had hoped to catch it. It was only during the last 10 minutes or so I decided to capture a short avi every minute or so leading to it to make an animation or stacked path image... but that all went wrong when IC capture hung and I missed the actual disappearance!

Glad you got it, and thanks for posting!

Al.

Thanks for posting Scott. Very interesting to see the fadeout at high magnification. Through my scope at lower mag. it seems to blink out.
There appears to be a smaller slightly fainter blur/blob to the upper right of Antares, would this perhaps be Antares B?

Well done.

Hi Scott, interesting video thanx for sharing.
I managed to take some images of the event but am not very good at this I'm afraid.
Here's my effort..
