Only managed to get a couple of shots while at Nambucca.. apparently they were around more, maybe I was just sleeping through the busy times :)
We did get a few views through the telescope, but they weren't consistent enough to take pictures through the eyepiece or at prime focus :)
Full frame and 1:1 crop below.

Nice shots Mike – that’s just about what we saw of them a couple of weeks ago, when we stayed at Tangalooma on Moreton Island and took a 4WD bus tour to the light house at Cape Morton. Apparently, the ones we saw were amongst the first of the season, which seems to run from June to October.
It looks like you had a brighter day though – we had overcast conditions and a light shower or two!:P
Cheers

Nice shot Mike, very cool.
I was just wondering what part of the whale are you actually looking at in the image?

Magnificent image Mike, and whales.
Did you hear they have problems with noise pollution?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7616283.stm
Levels of noise in the world's oceans are causing serious problems for whales, dolphins and other marine mammals, a report warns.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw) says undersea noise blocks animals' communication and disrupts feeding.
Naval sonar has been implicated in the mass deaths of some cetaceans.
