:birthday: Dave, have a good one and hope you recover soon.

We know why you're sick of course, it's the stress and worry of not knowing whether your recently firesaled equipment will go to a worthy home.

Tell the good wife that her directive to firesale the said goods is causing your health to fail and that the good doctor (Dr Who??) has decreed that only a cessation of hostilities will improve your condition....:P

If that fails I've included a birthday cake recipe as I couldn't find a way to upload the cake I prepared earlier to this thread.....

get Allan to bring you a bottle of whatever you prefer
send the kids out to find a good lemon tree and the missus off to find a beehive to raid for the honey

now we know the reason for the Fire Sale

you had to get some of the stuff off the bed

and there is nothing wrong with a doghouse - as long as it is big enough for a bed and the Beer fridge

guess i shouldn't be trying to make you laugh with your cough and all

Message to Jeanette !

better send down a couple of Qld girls to nurse him through this so he can make Astrofest
(i mean, it won't hurt - he is allready in the doghouse )

OK last night as I was mixing cocktails I came up with a new one:

"The Houghy Doghouse"

In a tall chilled glass pour-

- A serve of Old Tawny Port
- Add crushed ice
- Add three or four dashes of Tabasco Sauce (very hot).
- Juice a fresh lemon and remove the pips then add a teaspoon of white sugar, then stir it in.

Allow to chill for a couple of minutes and then enjoy the "Dog House" :D

this was sent to my wife in an email this morning Dave

"During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.

Some of us have used Vicks Vapo rub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren't sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapo rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Just happened to tune in A.M. Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good, due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so, I listened. It was a surprise finding VICKS to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.

My wife tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough (incredibly annoying!) every few seconds uncontrollable cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me, this was a deep cough, and she slept cough-free for hours every night that she used it.

If you have grandchildren, pass this on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed at how it works."

don't know Mike

i have allways used vick's to rub on my chest when i have a cold
it's good as a liniment for sore muscles and joints
and i seem to remember my mom saying to rub it on your feet as well when i was very young

try it Dave - put it to the test

Sorry I am late to this post string...Happy Birthday, belatedly...and best wishes for many many more!

I also hope you get to feeling better soon...I had a bout of this illness (or near enough to it) and it took me several weeks to completely get through it!

With respect to the "cure all properties" of Vicks Vapo-rub, based on Mitchell family lore, it is likely true...if something can not be cured by Vicks, Windex or a chiropractor (a good back cracking) it is not cureable!

While I have not tried the Vicks on the feet trick, I have rubbed it most other places to mostly good effect...next coughing night I'll try it.

**added disclaimer, I am not a Doctor and do not want to be construed as giving medical advice nor can I truly make the claim that Vicks, Windex or a Chiropractor can cure or fix anything...if you try any of the above, do so at your own risk...

And Again, Belated Happy Birthday!

I have tried a few Chardonnays and a couple of Merlot - numbs the area for a while - but the effect is quickly lost

So sorry to hear of all your recent plights Dave, all I can do is to wish you a speedy recovery, a wonderful belated birthday celebration when you are feeling better, and some great clear skies to enmjoy yourself when you're fully mobile again.

If you haven't tried this yet it's worth doing - get someone tp go into a pharmacy and ask for their "Senega and Ammonia" cough mix. Every chemist carries one, it's the best stuff you can get, and usually costs around $4 a bottle.

Some say it tastes like s**t, others that it looks like s**t - both may be correct, but when it comes to getting rid of the cough it works.
(Try mixing some in warm water and drink it down, that helps liberate the vapours and gets them moving upwards)

Cheers mate, hope you're on the up and up as soon as possible!
