View Full Version here: : Counterweight for a 10 newtonian on an eq6 pro go to
Planning to put a 10 newtonian on a eq6 pro go to. Just wondering from anyone who has done this how much counterweight am I likely to need? Thanks
I'm very close to doing this, just need to collect a set of rings to wrap around the GSO 10" tube and I'm ready to roll. I am looking at having around 15kg (total) in counter weights, I believe this should be good but I will know for sure when I try it.

I've got 3 standard cw's for the 10" GSO and a 4th when I use a side mounted ED80 guide scope. I think each cw is 5kg.

A little bit of basic physics (working out moments about the centre of balance) will give you how big a counterweight you need to balance the OTA --- Counterweight system on your GEM.
Essentially arrange that OTAmass x length from pivot point = counterweight x length down the counterweight shaft.
Note : you also need to balance the system so the tube is balanced too.
I use about 3 for the 10 inch tube only, with guiding you need 4 of them
