Saturn at opposition

Saturn is at opposition on 13/14 january 2005, the 10th is a new moon so observing should be good. Saturn also returns as an evening planet soon so should provide some good viewing and some good testing of our new telescopes to see who kind find the moons :astron:

Anyhow, just letting those of you who have not noticed this know.

Sounds great, hopefully i'll have the laptop that week so I can try imaging it at its best.

and yeh i'm looking forward to it being a night-time object again, as opposed to a 1:30am object.

but who am I kidding, i'll still get up early to catch Jupiter because i'm too lazy to wait 3 months for it to be high enough at night :)

saw it on saturday night/morning with a friend. looked good tho still low in the sky :)

I gotta see it through these damn palm fronds on a neighbors block , hopefully by then it well clear any obstructions

No Stuart this apparition does not suit us southerners. Last year was good for us when it was at the best opposition for the next 29 years. This year is going to be the second best and from there on in it will get smaller each year until 13 years from now.

its frightnening with those kind of time scales isnt it ...oh well we can only use the time thats given to us , be prepared and set to go

ah well I just cannot wait till my scope arrives and I can get looking at saturn, don't really wanna miss out on a decent show.

The good news is that mars will be good for us this coming year. And; so to Juptier. Both are below the celestial equator this coming year and should give us quite a show.
